Hello, a friend and I bought two Open Fire boxes a long while back and they were gathering dust on the shelves (I also have had a mid war Italian Army Box for 12 years without touching it, but that's another story). We now want to start our venture into Flames of War and have sent the boxes out to have them painted. They should be back in a month or so. V4 rule book is on it's way too. I think for now we will focus on Late War.

I thought I'd get the D-Day books for army lists. Is that reasonable?

Which two army lists would you make for us to learn FoW, based on the two open fire boxes? Maybe one version in small size (for the first games) and the second in "normal" size.

Any other advice for our start?

thank you for your help.

Hi the lists were actually based on , Bridge by Bridge ( German) and Market Garden (British the only list that allows them to take US paras ) .

Here are some lists you could use to build your forces :

I'm sad to see a boxed set like Open Fire not be rolled out for V4. It's a great starter set especially if you pair up and get two and split axis/allied. I bought two myself though I was far past the "starter" phase when I go them.

I think the Overlord set of books has a great variety of allied lists, that fits the Open fire stuff well. The Axis books have a ton of fortified stuff geared towards simulating the Normandy battles. Its a good place to start, but I'm a bigger fan of the Market Garden Books. The Axis lists have some crazy variety and combinations. It will be fun to see how some of them work in V4.
