Hey gang, went to an event where I tried Ed Forbe's advice regarding the large soviet infantry, even with clear plastic movement trays.

Enjoy

Looks like a great event. I'm hoping to hit and or host a tourney early next year as the one this year I can't make because of a conflict... :(

Nice report and looks like a good tournament.

Based on these games, what would you do differently next time (other than find a way to let the NVA take Gepards)?

Honestly just play the type of army more. Previously I had run mostly T-72s with some support but now it was all-new for me. I would get the hang of doing each step mechanically and not use up precious time deciding where to advance my infantry into and when to move to his flanks for max. RPG shots.

I would ditch the recce BMPs and just stick with the MTLB Shturms I think, with Leo IIs, M1s and soon-to-come the rumoured up-armoured M1, I need those AT-23 shots in the army.

One more thing, I might need cheap Hails or something. I was stymied in one game with having some AA behind a building and with nothing apart from air that could hit them, which naturally, was the perfect spot for them! At least with arty, I could pop the template down near them and clip them and then pray for a lucky hit!

Also, as I didnt take many pics of my own stuff, Drew got some shots of my army (though they aren't Yugo's!):

Looked like a great event! My LGS had our first Team Yankee tourney last weekend (10 players). I ran a very similar force to yours, and did poorly as well.

I’m about to just stop taking my T-72s at all. They were 27 points of my 80 total. I games 2 and 3 they died without firing a shot.
Your event looked great. Some very impressive terrain and armies.

It was great having you down. We are looking to do a larger TY event in the spring. Details should be up by the new year.
