I wonder if anchoring your left with archers and the elephant would have provided a better outcome. Knights are -1 to the EL so you should do pretty well (3 fights with -1 if you place it between 2 archers).

That should have worked out, but it would have been difficult to pull off. Before you see any figures deployed, you write a "Battle Plan" Basically the relative positions on how the commands are to be placed. In this fight, I stated, 1,2,3. 1 is the cavalry command on the left. All of 2, the infantry command must be to the right of 1 and to the left of 3. The actual positions are flexible, as long as the relative positioning is maintained.

yeah, I play too. So, IMHO, you still could have managed it since your other two commands are so mobile. Deploy the infantry center left, so they just need to move forward to the front edge of the hill and wheel a bit to protect your left. Then you two other commands race out and do what you already did.
