Enjoy! :D It will go quick if you keep it basic.

This is ME we're talking about, though...

... all kidding aside... honestly I'm not doing a lot of customization in the builds on these, but I will be doing the 3-tone camouflage. To make it go quicker (and to avoid having to "roll my own" modulation colors") I'm probably going to go with the "Black and White" method so I can just put on each color once... which will hopefully go faster. Worked well on my Arado...

Yes...you are you! :D I know they will look great in the camo scheme.

I'm far too lazy. I just painted all of my stuff with the Soviet Green spray, painted tracks and detail, did a black wash, and then added decals. Will run them as any Warsaw Pact Force. Even though I'm running them using the DDR lists/stats at Historicon, everything, including the infantry is modeled at Generic Soviet. I'm just assume they are a Category 2 Soviet Russian outfit.

At some point, I plan to "dirty" my Soviets with some dust etc. Right now they are "Toy Solider" clean ready for the May Day parade!

Works for me. I may have to do some true Soviet at some point because the T-64 mini is very nice... and only the Soviets get it...

Maybe eventually we'll have "Allied support" in TY...

Made an update today: https://miniordnancerev.blogspot.com/20 ... gress.html

10 of 15 T72 are ready for primer. Hail battery is ready for primer (kudos to BF for replacing my mangled first box). BMP-1 are moving along. Infantry box is opened and in the sort and clean phase...

Hail Hydra... errr... Galaxar... oh you get the idea...

How difficult is putting the T-72 together? And are you planning to include Mine Plows?

T-72 isn't bad at all. Fit is pretty good. Only part I got ticky about is the rear fuel drums and removing that join line from the round sides. Of course, I have the same problem when I'm making 1/35th scale vehicles.

At this point I'm not planning to use mine plows, but that may change once I see how things go on the table...

Here is the latest on painting my East Germans - the good news is I'm making some progress, the bad news is it looks like I'm going to have to continue to borrow and proxy for the first few rounds of the Firestorm Campaign... but I did manage to get real live paint on figures this week!

Are you doing any custom work with these like you normally seem to do?

Not as much as on some previous forces for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is I don't have quite as extensive a research library covering Cold War forces - and the BF kits are pretty good by and large.

What I am doing:

T-72 commander has dropped his fuel drums and has the racks only (which was a pain in the butt to do!) - makes him stand out better on the table.

Putty fill and minor detaining on the BMP-1 front to make it look a bit more accurate (will post photos when they're done).

I've had to do some reconstructive surgery on some of the T55AM tanks because the front turret searchlight got sheared off in transit (currently running about 40% of tanks).

Future projects:

For my fixed wing air support, I'm using Su-22 Fitter fighter/bombers in East German livery rather than the Frogfoot - need to get some flight stands though - picked up some decent kits cheap as well as some appropriate DDR decals

For these I'm going to spend the most time on the painting and detailing - literally everything is going to be in the 3-tone scheme... and modulated using the Ammo Black and White system...

Well, at least you don't have to worry about FoW stuff keeping you too busy to finish this project!

Yeah - sadly my FoW stuff is still just sitting there... staring at me... I'm hoping to get my Panzer IV/70 army together at some point in the future, but it's shifted in priority solidly behind TY DDR at this point... :(

Honestly once the TY DDR is done, I'm thinking about moving over to my Arab-Israeli stuff. I started picking up some PSC T-55's so I could do some OpFor for my Israelis... which I also need to finish painting up...

So some quick numbers...

Infantry - all currently being painted.
T-72 - 10 of 15 assembled
T-55AM - 8 of 10 assembled
Shilka - 4 of 4 assembled and ready for paint
BMP-1 - 11 of 12 bodies, and 4/12 turrets assembled, but fronts not finished
Hail - 3/3 assembled and ready for paint
BRDM - 4/4 assembled and ready for paint
Spandrel 3/3 assembled and ready for paint

Goal is to get all of the assembly done this week so maybe when I get back on Sunday evening I can start priming and painting vehicles... lots and lots of vehicles... well that's the hope at least...

The problem with you, Doc, is how you make me feel like an amateur.

Nice job.

That's what I'm taking about! :D So awesome!

Great idea for an OP or even and objective! Maybe for an objective one could have the antenna mast deployed?

This inspired me to buy. BTR-50 today. It wouldn't need much in the way of conversion aside maybe from extra antennas. I figure it will make a nice objective model,
