Battle: B4
Mission: Hasty Attack from Great War Missions PDF (British Attacking) or Green Fields Beyond (British Attacking)
The Germans have just effected a link up with their isolated forces southwest (zone A2) of Villers-Bretonneux by breaking through the Australian forces south of the town (zone B3). However, before the Germans can move supplies and reinforcement through this corridor to the west, they must defend it against an immediate British attempt to seal off the salient again. The British have no choice but to ask the remnants of the 13th AIF Bde to attack back into the positions they were just forced from. The only support the Command could muster for the exhausted Australians is the less than steady 173rd Bde.

German Forces:
Base Force: 1250pts (May include tanks)
Firestorm Troops:
MG Abt 4G (Reinforce your company with an Infanterie Machine-Gun platoon w/ Command Pistol team and two Maxim HMG teams rated as Confident Veteran)

British Forces:
Base Force: 1250pts (May include tanks)
Firestorm Troops:
13th BDE (Reinforce your company with a Rifle Platoon with a Command Pistol team, four Rifle teams, two Rifle Grenade teams and two MG teams rated as Confident Veteran.)
173rd BDE (Reinforce your company with a Rifle Platoon with a Command Pistol team, four Rifle teams, two Rifle Grenade teams and two MG teams rated as Confident Trained.)

Terrain: This area has been heavily fought over and so "Cratered Ground" rule is in effect. The Germans base edge is the “North” and the British attack from the “South” base edge. The “East” edge of the board includes a trench line that runs from the “South” edge to the “North” edge with communication trenches connecting to the “East” edge. (See attached map)

Outcome:
If the British win this battle they will then have the initiative for the last battle. This would be unnecessary to play because by the campaign rules if the British win at B4, the German forces in A2 and B3 would be cut off without having another chance to effect another link up. In the case the campaign effectively over as a major victory for the British forces.
If the Germans win this battle they will maintain their supply lines and the 100 VPs of zones A2 and B3. This will leave them behind the 240 VPs the British currently hold. In addition to maintaining their salient, winning Battle #2 in Turn 4 will give them the initiative for the final Battle of the Campaign. This undoubtedly would be an attack from A2 to B1 which has no Firestorm Troops and is worth 80VPs (more than any other zone).

So the campaign looks like it will shake out as follows:
The British win Battle #2 – It will 340 British VPs (+ captured Firestorm Troop VPs) to Zero German VPs. Major British Win campaign ends right there and there will be no Battle #3.
The Germans win Battle #2, and then lose Battle #3 – The game will be 240 British VPs to 100 German VPs, a lesser British win.
The Germans win Battle #2 and #3 – The game will be 180 German VPs to 140 British VPs, a Minor German win.

So there’s still a lot of ways this campaign could end. If your group has not yet been able to get in a game, there’s still a chance for you to help determine the final outcome. The British have the edge, but back to back German wins in Battle #2 and Battle #3 could give them the win!

We’ll take results for Battle #2, Turn 4 up until Sunday night. Would really like to see this battle not just decided by the games in Kentucky and Texas.

After the HCon and GenCon madness, I actually have a game scheduled this Thursday with Chris, so we'll finally hop in (at the very end!)

Great news!

Yep H-Con and ETC seem to have been big impacts of folks getting in games. I'm OK with that as I just was looking to make this a small quick effort to begin with.

I've learned a lot and I'm looking forward to applying that knowlegde in another campaign.

Have fun!
