For the campaign finale, we play a Total War game with a Brit Armoured Recce Squadron teaming up with 101st Paras to attempt to take Cherbourg.

Mission: Hold the Line

The Germans put the mortars, AA halftacks, small Grenadier platoon, StuGs, and 8rads in delayed reserve. The Panzer IVs go into ambush.

Neb observer view:

Since the print-off buildings don't open, I numbered each one and made an off-board tracking sheet.
Image

Turn 1:
Brit tanks take pot-shots at the observer to no effect.
Image

Brit tanks move down the road and the Paras move out.
Image

Nebs open up on the tank column...
Image

...and draw first blood.
Image

Turn 2:
The Thunderbolt arrives and gets a bead on a single Neb. And takes it out.
Image

The Brit tanks make a move against the Neb observer, but whiff.
Image

Full steam ahead!
Image

MG shots can't injure the dug-in Grens.
Image

Tanks move in to assault the observer...
Image

...but whiff.
Image

The Stuka arrives.
Image

...and puts the hurt on some TDs/
Image

The Panzer ambush bails two tanks.
Image

The Cromwell commander leaves his buddies in the lurch to take the rest of the shots.
Image

Turn 3:
The Cromwells move in and pin the dug-in Grens with MG fire.
Image

The paras move out.
Image

The Achilles take out a couple of Panzer IVs.
Image

The tank commander bogs when trying to assault the observer.
Image

Tally ho, old boy!
Image

I dare say we gave Jerry the ole' one-two punch. *dawns monocle*
Image

Neb bombardment ineffective.
Image

Brits move to avoid Panzer fire, but take a casualty due to a Panzerfaust shot.
Image

Turn 4:

Brit tank shooting further widdles down the Grens.
Image

The paras consolidate the objective.
Image

Only the CiC remains near the objective.
Image

A Panzer IV takes out the still-bailed Cromwell. The platoon commander sticks around.
Image

Not much hope now. The StuG and Panzer IV move to contest the next turn (after the CiC will most likely die by firing squad)
Image

Turn 5:

The CiC gets assaulted, and dies.
Image

StuGs arrive from reserve a turn too late.
Image

The tanks have to assault to attempt to contest, and lose one to a defensive bazooka shot.
Image

The lone StuG makes a dent, but alas, dies to dozens of Gammon bombs..
Image

Unable to get any units to contest the objective, the Allies win 6-1...
Image

It was a tough game for the Germans. Reserves arrived too late to really help. I should have evacuated the buildings a turn earlier to help with the threatened objective. I think the Panzer IV ambush was in the wrong place too...hindsight 20/20 and all...

Still, a fun game and a great way to end the campaign. I look forward to the next one!

The Big Willies agree. Good report and good game. That was a fun one for us to end the campaign on.

Thanks for the write up! Too bad the Allies won, but at least it was not enough to save the day overall....
