I'm trying to keep the price reasonable - that's why I am not doing any finishing on them beyond the primecoat.

Oh damn, this looks good! Any chance of GenCon pickup if it'll be ready by then?

Have you considered doing a kickstarter or something? I think you could sell a couple hundred easily!

Kickstarter (while a great idea for this) might be a really rough experience for a rather cottage-industry as this. Imagine if he got a couple thousand orders? There are a lot of miniature gamers out there. He would need to afford staff, bulk materials, etc etc.

You would almost have to patent the idea as what it is then send it offshore for creation/distribution.

That being said, I'm not a business man, but I would get all over patenting this if it's something that's patent-able. I have to imagine companies like Battlefoam would get all over this.

Those who are curious for additional ideas-- I'll be adding two free-swinging bolts to the top on either side and suspending a laptop bag strap between them. That way when I don't have models on it I can easily hang it off my shoulder and still carry other things in my hand. When i'm moving it around I'll simply unclip the straps and stow them. Feel free to steal the idea.

I will try to have some available at GenCon. I will be there as the organizer for Able Kompanie's Flames of War events and tourmaments.

At this point, I have 9 people interested in the first 15 so it will likely be a second run.

This is much more of a fun project for me that allows me to do some hands-on work. I work here in Indy supervising the Scenery construction for the Indiana Repertory Theatre so almost all of my work is with drawings, planning and supervison of a team of Scenic Carpenters. I rarely get out into the Shop to build anything myself. I'll keep it small and enjoy it - my job keeps me busy enough.

thanks to all for the great response.

I'm sure you could get a lot of other gamers into these if you wanted to expand. I'm sure if you contacted the Garagehammer podcast they would probably review it if you sent them a free one. I'm sure you would get a ton of orders through that.

If you go to Historicon with a few, Ill pick one up there. I live in Canadia, so no dice on getting one shipped thanks to Customs and all that, iM SURE.

I'm flying to Historicon so I am checking to see if someone else who's driving can carry a few of them out there. That will also depend on if any of this initial run are left - or if I have the time to make anymore before then. I'll let you know.

This post and word of mouth will likely exceed my production capacity .... and that's OK. As I mentioned above - this is fun for me - I already have a job. :) :) :)

How did you paint your organizer? Looks good.

Here's how I finished my organizer.

2 coats of Krylon spray paint with a light sanding inbetween coats

For the Grass top - Painted the top a medium green then Modge-Podge* and sprinkled flocking then a recoat of Modge-Podge* and a second flocking -finally a finish coat of Dullcoat.

Same process for the Sand finish on the other side.

The Able Kompanie Logo is also attached with Modge-Podge*

The black handles are from Home Depot and screw on from the outside. (the side wall of the bbox is 3/4" thick)

I got a piece of self adhesive green felt from Hobby Lobby for the bottom of the dice box

*Modge-Podge - http://www.amazon.com/arts-crafts-sewing/dp/B001IKES5O

That's about it. Let me know if you have any questions.
