I think I’ve got my 1st 100 point force for Team Yankee figured out. I have all of the models needed save one BMP-1:

Unit Points
Bn HQ T-72 5
Tank Co w/ 7 x T-72 32
Tank Co w/ 7 x T-72 32
Mech Co w/ 7 x AK, 6 x RPG, 2 x LMG, 9 x BMP-2 18
add BMP-2 w/ SA-14 2
Artillery w/ 3 x 2S1 Carnation 5
AAA w/ 2 x ZSU-23-4 Shilka 2
SAM w/ 2 x SA-13 Gopher 2
Forward Observer w/ 1 x BMP-1 1

99

So what do the Team Yankee vets think of this a my first foray into TY? What lessons will I learn the hard way?

Tom

Looks like a decent starter list. I am seeing less T-72s and more BMPs. A tweak might be to switch to a BMP commander, the swap one T-72 company for another BMP one. With left over points, bulk up your AA and then if anything left make a larger T-72 company.

Of course this little tweak is a large $$ change.

2 BMP + 1 T72 + toys is the way to go. Nearly impossible to break and enough infantry to push tanks all over the place. 20+ missiles is a lot of overwatch.

I'll eventually get there. This is just where I'm starting off. When my store had a big sale, I just jumped on without knowing the rules etc. I figured a Tank Bn w/ a MRC attached should be OK. In the interim, my opponents will likely enjoy playing against a more breakable force.

Thanks. I'm model limited to largely what I have above for now. I will use a Christmas Amazon gift card to add another box of BMPs. But that will be the limit of what I can do until next month.

I started working in the force the weekend. I also bought another BMP box, ZSU-23-4 box, and SA-13 box. Only one week into 2017 and I've already spent $100 on TY in a year when I really want to scale back by hobby $'s!!!:(

Work is underway on this force. I have almost all of the BMPs and T-72s built. The T-72s were a bit fiddly I thought.

Tom...

Tom...

This is your younger self talking to you through the years...

Just buy the toys... You deserve it... You have worked looooooong hours... Just buy all the BMPs you can... Embrace the horde... Enjoy painting them like your beautiful Brown Water Navy stuff... Make people jealous of your skills... Buy them... BUY THEM...

And next time, let your friend up in Wisconsin know about the 75% sales... He is nice... And he deserves to be given the heads up next time...

Buy...

BUY...

Ha! In the entire time I've known Rick, since 2002, he has only had a 75% off sale once. But he's had many 30, 40, and 50% off sales. He normally has sales in conjunction with holidays, like Veterans Day. He post the sale on the stores Facebook account usually a day or two before the sale. His last sale was New Year's Eve at 50% off. Normally the big sales are cash only, but not all.

I used to live in Sterling, Va and Herndon. You might not be that much of a stranger!

Tom,
Look, I know you are digging those Soviets, but really, don't the Volks look better? You can field 21 T55s and 9 of those fun new T72s all for 36 points! Think how many more BMPs you can buy!

Last night finished assembling the 20 T-72s and 10 BMPs. Tonight I'll assemble the 6 x 2S1s, 4 x SA-13s, and 4 x ZSU-23-4's. All of these have already been prepped so just need superglue....I hope. 5 More BMPs are in route.

I am very disappointed in the ZSU-23-4s. The tracks will not fit without a lot of dremel work. The "trim vane" across the bow is also very weak and mostly breaks off. Perhaps I should have went with Zvezda?

Interesting. Don't recall any issue with mine. Of course, I could just be blocking bad memories ....

Ha! I still have tons of 6mm moderns. I only bought into 15mm because of the big sale at my LGS!

On my ZSU-23-4s the "mud guard flaps" at the front and rear of the tracks are too think and the tracks cannot seat properly. I'll need to dremmel it out.

They look great!

I'm adding in some NVA (Vietnam) T-55s I have. I figured I'll just paint them as generic Sovietesqe so I can use them in Nam. South Africa, as Poles, etc.
