I am looking at EW books. How viable are the Horse calvary and Motorcycle lists? I am thinking doing a Hellfire and Back Kradshutzen list.

Given the right match up, the Cavalry can be devastating. Riding down infantry being forced to flee is an amazing feeling. But go up against some serious tank lists? they're toast. The Motorcycle rules are all bad, they can also be fun models to run, and might give you some more flexibility. I don't see any of the Cav or Motor cycle lists as tourney winners, but in the right hands and with some practice, they can be a blast to play.

Anyone have any more experience with them, feel free to chime in or disagree?

I won a local league series with an Italian Motociclisti list but it was in spite of the motorcycles rather than because of them! Over the course of the series I never did figure out how to use them properly. Positioning all those large stands was also a problem. Mainly relied on dismounted Bersaglieri and tanks instead.

The only time the motorcycle troops really came in handy was a night mission that used a contested objective in the middle of the table. Used the recce move to move about 3 dozen (!) m/c stands up to get the jump on controlling the objective. Night gave them some protection.

A couple of league seasons from now, I'll get to see how EW Cossacks fare!

Does each large base dismount into one or two stands?

Large stands dismount to one medium base each.

Note that Italian command stands are mounted on a large base and dismount to one small base each. This is because Italians have 3 command figs on two motorcycles without sidecars. If you have two motorcycles (sidecar or not), they are on a large base.

Most motorcycle command teams are modeled with a single sidecar motorcycle on a medium base, and dismount to a small base.

Biggest problem is the foot print of Cav/Bike units mounted ... Suddenly you find that no matter where you go you are in the open ...

The other problem with the italian bikes is they can't shoot while moving and can't remount.
