Well, the campaign I started this force for ended six months ago, but at least they are done now.

The base of this force are 16 original "zinc mold" Shermans/Fireflies from the first Open Fire sets. Not the best models, but I'm really pleased with how they came out as a unit.

They look real good.

Just a historical note. Your recon would be the infantry AoS. The 54 AoS implies they cam from the Motor Bn & that was with the Grenadier Regt/Battlegroup.

Thanks. Yes. Apparently I need "Green 62's" for the 3rd Bn, Irish Guards. But I did not have any. I had "Red 54's which I knew had UCs also, so its was the closest Guards Division having UC unit I could do at the moment. When I come across some Green 62 markers, I'll replace them.

Looking at these "full screen" pics vice on my phone, I also now notice some touchups I need to do. I'm also considering "dirtying" these up a bit and maybe even adding "Hessian Tape" to help cover up some of the Open Fire Gaps that I did not totally get rid off. I also attempted to paint the white undersides of the Firefly Gun tubes, but I could not get it to look right and just painted over the test model's gun tube.

But for now they are playable and like the look/feel of them.

Tom

BTW JOE Vandeleur was the CO of the 3rd Battalion Irish Guards , so maybe his scout car should have 62 on it ?

Agree its a nice looking force :)

Red 62's? What unit was red 62?

The RAF would be the same number as Vandeluer's AFV.

62 on Green , not sure about RAF makings , but the BF spotlight shows it only with a star , http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=1567

I might hit them(the tanks) with a drybrush? to make the lines pop and give a bit more weathering to the tanks. I like the color and care in these though. and the faces and details on all the infantry and drivers are really nice.

Thanks dano...but I must confess out of the whole force the Tyhpoon was the only thing I did not paint. It was actually a gift from my friend when V3 reduced the requirement to have three models to just one. So he game me one of his extra's and so technically it was the first piece in this force. The rest came when the Open Fire set came out and I though "OK, lets do some Infantry, UCs, and JOE Vandeleur and I'll have a nice Market Garden force.

Speaking of JOE Vandeleur, I found a few pics that have examples of his Humber's markings. I'd post them here but the board will not allow anymore attachments. One pic is from the Bridge too Far movie. In that the Humber has a Red 53 AoS. The other is from the Bolt Action JOE Humber. It is shown with a Green 62. So I guess the question is, was the Humber organic to the 2nd Bn (Armoured) Irish Guards or was it appropriated for JOE from the 3rd Bn (Infantry) Irish Guards' MTOE? I'm inclined to go with the movie one even if that's not quite historically correct.

The movie is incorrect. But you make artistic exceptions to make it look good on the table.

Really more of a case that I have only one AoS decal available for the two options!

Battalion commanders in the lorried infantry brigade of armoured divisions were provided with a scout car rather than the universal carrier in an infantry division. So JOE would have been in one with 62 AoS. I have seen 63 listed as AoS for 3rd Irish Guards but as far as I know this is wrong as they were senior to the Welsh Guards. It may date from when a Scots battalion was part of the brigade.
